Lord Browne of Madingley and Ami Daniel

March 11 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm GMT

Join us in celebrating ‘UK Israel Business’ (UKIB) 70th anniversary with an intimate conversation with Lord Browne and Ami Daniel, founder and CEO of Windward as they absorb you in a fireside chat about their observations on the economy and business world.

Lord Browne is best known for his role as chief executive of energy company BP between 1995 and 2007. This period has been described as the company’s “golden period of expansion and diversification”. Browne is the kind of person who never accepts that something can’t be done and who is always asking if there is a better way or if someone might have a better idea. Under his leadership, BP became the same kind of company.

Ami, on the other hand, has been building organisations since the young age of 16, all based around helping others. His first was a community centre in Haifa that aimed to promote coexistence. Then came an NGO to inspire troubled teens. Afterward, he served as a naval officer, but after his ship was hit by a missile, he decided to go ahead and set up Windward.

Windward is an intelligence company that empowers actionable decisions in maritime safety, security, compliance, and supply chain across the ecosystem, combining best-in-class data science and a deep understanding of what happens at sea.

Lord Browne of Madingley

Lord Browne was born in 1948. He holds degrees in Natural Sciences from Cambridge and an MS in Business from Stanford.

He joined BP in 1966 as a university apprentice, between 1969 and 1983 had a variety of exploration and production posts in North America and the UK, and in 1984 became Group Treasurer and Chief Executive of BP Finance International. He held senior roles during the BP/Standard and BP/Amoco mergers in 1987 and 1998 and was appointed Group Chief Executive in 1995. He left in 2007.

He is Executive Chairman of L1 Energy and Chairman of Wintershall Dea, Europe’s largest independent oil and gas company. He sits on the boards of IHS Markit and SparkCognition, and is Chairman of Stanhope Capital and Windward. Lord Browne is a member of the advisory boards of Edelman, Schillings, Blue Bear Capital, the Angeleno Group, Hyperloop TT, and the big data technology companies Afiniti and Kayrros. He is an investor in numerous companies operating at the intersection of science, engineering, energy and climate change, including ChargePoint and Independent Energy Standards (IES).

Ami Daniel

Co-Founder & CEO – Windward

For two decades, Ami has harnessed innovation and a relentless focus on driving transformative change to build successful organizations in both the nonprofit and private sectors. A seven-year veteran of the Israeli Navy – where he developed his passion for the sea – Ami co-founded Windward in 2010 with the mission of bringing Predictive Intelligence to the maritime ecosystem. Over the past decade, the company has partnered with governments, the United Nations, Frontex, financial institutions, and energy companies to power operational readiness and future-forward decisions. Prior to co-founding Windward, Ami led a community center aimed at promoting coexistence, and an NGO to inspire and engage youth at risk. The recipient of a BA in Law & Business from Tel Aviv University, Ami has won numerous accolades over the course of his career, including the Ilan Ramon Award for Excellence and the Israeli President’s Award for Social Good.
